About Clare B. Dunkle
A Photographic Tour of Germany

When I began writing, my family was living in Germany. We lived there while my first four books were published and put into stores. Readers wrote to ask about Germany, so I put up these pages to share some of the wonderful things we encountered here.

For the first year, every time I looked around, I thought, “That looks like a postcard!” Now I don’t notice anymore, but preparing these pages made me see it again. There is so much beauty there. I miss it very much.

NICE THINGS ABOUT LIVING HERE

My daughters would say that these photographs show very little of real German life. If the pictures on my pages look like a tourist’s souvenirs, that is because I was only an outsider there. But my daughters were not: they knew what it felt like to be a real German teen. Here is a photograph of them when their closest friends in the world were all Germans.
