Author Visits
Book signings, author visits & special projects
Those of you who tried to arrange visits with me over the summer know that I had to shut down my author visit calendar for a time in order to deal with
a medical emergency in my family. But things are better, and with the new school year, I have once again opened up my calendar for visits.
My normal speaking fee varies depending on whether or not the venue
is within five hours' drive of my home (San Antonio,
Texas). If it is, my speaking fee is $300 plus travel expenses
for a one-day visit, or $500 plus travel
expenses for a two-day visit. If the venue
is further than five hours' drive, I charge $500
plus travel expenses for a one-day visit,
or $750 plus travel expenses for a two-day
visit. Beyond that, I charge $250 plus travel expenses
for each additional day.
My travel expenses consist of a per-mile charge of thirty
cents a mile (if I drive to your venue), or the cost
of the airplane tickets (if I fly to your venue). They
also include a $25-a-day charge for meals. If I
have to stay in a hotel, I pass on that hotel cost
to you. If I have to fly to your venue, I usually travel the day
before in order to be sure, in this era of flight delays, that I
will be on time to your event, so you will need to factor in that
hotel cost. However, if I drive to your event, I usually start my
commute very early in the morning, so I usually do not have to charge
for a hotel stay in that case.
Extrovert that I am, I’m happy to hold as many engagements
as you and your neighboring libraries/schools can arrange. A two-day
visit gives me enough time to host a fiction-writing workshop if
I can meet with the same classes both days.
I can accept only two visit requests
per month. If you would like to request a visit during an
available month, please check the schedule below to see if
your desired month is available. Then click on the Contact
the Author button at the right or email me at claredunkle.com
(my email name is clare).
When you contact me, please suggest
the days that will work best for you; my writing work is more
fluid than your curriculum, so chances are good that I will
be able to work with your date.
