Readers have written me to ask questions about the book. Here are some of those questions and their answers. Although I still answer reader mail about this book, I no longer add questions and answers to this page because I wrote this book over five years ago, and I no longer trust my memory about its details.

WARNING: If you have not read the book, please DO NOT read this page. The questions won't interest you, and they will ruin some of the book's best surprises.

WHY IS MARTIN HELPING HIS FATHER IN THIS BOOK? I THOUGHT HE HATED HIM.

Martin is pretty sure he hates Dad too. He hasn't gone back to the suburb to rescue Dad. He went home to rescue Mom. Dad just wound up tagging along, and there doesn't seem to be much Martin can do about it.

DO WE GET TO VISIT A GAME SHOW?

We do indirectly (and you'll see how that works out), but Martin himself doesn't wind up on a show. I originally wrote a chapter in which he did end up on a show, but ultimately I decided that he had somewhere else to be. Now we just get a glimpse of it, but it's a very sobering glimpse—probably more sobering than the entire chapter had been before.

I WANT TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENED TO BUG.

So does Martin.

IS THIS ANOTHER BOOK WHERE THE DOG DIES IN THE END? BECAUSE IF IT IS, I DON'T WANT TO READ IT!

I know just how you feel. All I can say is that you'll have to trust me.
