When I set out to write By These Ten Bones, I wanted to bring to life a world that no longer exists: the late medieval Scottish Highlands. My family and I visited Scotland in order to learn what we could about the people of that time and place, and I have collected some of our photographs on these pages to help you bring Maddie’s world into focus.
