When I decided to write a prequel to Emily Brontë's Wuthering Heights, I went to Yorkshire to research the Brontës and get a feel for the gloomy English moors. Here are some photographs from that trip to give you some insight into Seldom House and its surroundings.

I was very fortunate that the book illustrator, Patrick Arrasmith, instinctively grasped the book's grim mood. My editor shared his sketches with me, and Mr. Arrasmith incorporated into the finished artwork every change I suggested. As a result, his illustrations are remarkably true to the vision I had for this book. The first time I saw the finished product, I cried, I was so happy.
